Nairobi Senate Aspirant Ken Babu Condemns Attack on Irungu Nyakera’s Business at Lake Basin Development Authority

Nairobi, Kenya, Ken Babu, a prominent opposition youth leader and aspiring Nairobi senator for the 2027 general elections, has issued a strong condemnation of the recent violent attack on Irungu Nyakera’s business premises within the Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) facility in Kisumu. Babu’s statement underscores his firm stance against political violence and his commitment to upholding the rule of law and democratic principles in Kenya.

    A Disturbing Scene of Lawlessness

Having carefully reviewed circulating videos depicting the incident, Ken Babu described the scenes as “deeply troubling and unacceptable.” The videos show a mob of organized goons vandalizing Nyakera’s business property, intimidating staff, and engaging in acts of violence that threaten the safety of individuals and the security of private investments.

“This act of lawlessness is not only unacceptable but also dangerous for the stability of our democracy,” Babu stated. “The destruction of property and intimidation tactics employed by these organized groups undermine the rule of law and threaten the safety of Kenyans and the confidence of investors in our nation.”

    Condemnation of Political Violence

Ken Babu emphasized that Kenya must not normalize violence as a means of settling political differences. The rising trend of using violence and intimidation tactics as tools to influence political outcomes erodes public trust in institutions and hampers progress towards a peaceful democratic society.

“Kenya’s democracy is built on respect, dialogue, and constitutionalism,” Babu asserted. “Any attempt to use violence to intimidate or suppress political opponents is a direct attack on our constitutional rights and freedoms.”

Call for Immediate Investigation and Justice

In his statement, Babu called on security agencies to act swiftly and transparently. “An immediate, thorough investigation must be launched to identify those responsible for this heinous act. Justice must be served to demonstrate that such lawless behavior has no place in our society,” he urged.

He further emphasized that accountability is crucial in deterring future acts of political violence and ensuring that Kenyans feel safe and protected, regardless of their political affiliations.

Standing in Solidarity with Irungu Nyakera

Babu expressed his solidarity with Irungu Nyakera, emphasizing that no Kenyan should experience such intimidation or violence because of their political views or business pursuits. “I stand in unwavering support of Irungu Nyakera and all Kenyans who believe in peaceful coexistence and respect for the rule of law,” he said.

His words serve as a reminder that Kenya’s progress depends on maintaining a democratic environment where political differences are resolved through dialogue, not violence.

    A Call for Democratic Maturity

As a leading figure in opposition politics and a future aspirant for the Nairobi Senate, Ken Babu’s stance is a beacon calling for democratic maturity and responsible leadership. He urged fellow politicians, security agencies, and citizens to work together to ensure that Kenya remains a nation governed by laws, constitutionalism, and respect for democratic freedoms.

“Kenya’s future lies in upholding our constitutional values and ensuring that violence and mob justice do not take root in our society,” Babu concluded. “We must protect our institutions, our citizens, and our democratic space at all costs.”

The attack on Irungu Nyakera’s business at LBDA has sparked widespread concern and condemnation across political lines. Ken Babu’s remarks highlight the importance of addressing such incidents decisively to preserve Kenya’s democratic integrity and to foster a peaceful, law-abiding nation.

As Kenya continues to navigate its political landscape, the message from leaders like Ken Babu is clear: the path forward must be paved with respect, justice, and a firm rejection of violence in all its forms.
