Why Khalif Kairo Is Still In Prison Despite His Bond Being Reduced From Ksh. 2M To Ksh.500K

Controversial city car dealer Khalif Kairo has been in prison for 3 weeks now, This is after he failed to deliver a car despite being paid full amount of money. The court had ordered him to pay a Ksh.2 Million Bond, but later reduced to Ksh.500,000. Despite the reduction he is still in prison.

According to reliable sources, it has been revealed that Bond is very different from cash bail. For bond someone has to pay money and an asset worth that amount money.

Hence in this case, Kairo might have managed to raise the Ksh.500,000, but he doesn’t have an asset worth that amount of money. Or there might be a scenario whereby he has an asset, and the authorities are still investigating to make sure, that its legal and it actually belongs to him.

Once everything is done, and they have approved that the asset belongs to him, the court will issue a release order, then Khalif Kairo will be released from remand immediately. So assessing bond takes time, and that is why Khalif Kairo is still in prison.
