Snakes Are Our Friends: Inside A Village Where They Keep Pythons And Cobra’s As Domestic Animals

Most human beings fear snakes, infact a huge number see them as enemies, in most cases if someone meets a snake, they will either run or, try to kill it.

However this is not the case in one of the villages in West Africa, Ghana. In the remote part of Ghana, there is a village identified as Afdajo. It is a very unique village with very friendly and welcoming residents.

In this village, the entire community keep snakes as domestic animals. Snakes are just part of them, hence they freely crawl around the village, without any disturbance.

In a documentary done by Scanty Explorers, the senior man who is incharge of making sure that the snakes are well taken care of, said that Snake are their friends. Infact they feel very secure when snakes are around them.

He said there are several pythons, Cobra’s and black mamba’s in the village. They are very good animals, they eat mice and protect them from danger. They are harmless but poisonous.

In addition he said that the secret of living peacefully with snakes is providing a conducive environment for them, and handling them calmly. They enjoy playing with human beings, and in the entire village they genuinely value snakes.
