Senior Lawyer Willis Otieno Reveals Why General Elections Should Be Done In 2026 Instead Of 2027.
One of the most famous and celebrated kenyan legal minds, who is also a senior highcourt lawyer, Willis Otieno, has decided to explain to Kenyans, why according to the constitution, general elections are supposed to be done in 2026 instead of 2027.
Speaking on a podcast, Willis Otieno said that section 36 of the constitution, is where everything about the general elections is found. The election is supposed to be conducted following every aspect of the chapter.
The chapter is clear that every election should be conducted on the second Tuesday August of every 5th year. It says every 5th year and not after every 5 years. Hence in 2027 it doesn’t align with the provision of the chapter, therefore it will be very wise for Kenya to do its general elections in 2026, that is if they truly value and respect the constitution.
