The Gambler Who Lost Everything and Found Himself
Patrick was once a hardworking man in Nairobi, respected by friends and family. But everything changed the day he placed his first bet. At the beginning, it felt harmless, just a quick attempt to win extra money. But soon, betting became an obsession. Patrick started spending his evenings in betting shops, chasing the feeling that the next win would fix everything.
Weeks turned into months, and the losses grew heavier. He borrowed money, sold personal belongings, and lied constantly. His wife cried as bills piled up. His children stopped asking for school needs because they already knew the answer. Patrick’s home became filled with tension, and shame followed him everywhere like a shadow.
One night, after losing the last of his savings, Patrick sat alone on a roadside, feeling completely defeated. An older man approached and suggested visiting a traditional doctor near Ngong, known for helping people trapped in destructive habits. Patrick had nothing left to lose.
The doctor did not condemn him. Instead, he asked, “What are you truly searching for?” Patrick realized he was not chasing money, but escape from fear, failure, and emptiness.
Over several weeks, Patrick was guided through discipline, accountability, and emotional healing. Recovery was painful, but it was real. Slowly, he stopped betting. Slowly, trust returned.
Today, Patrick works again and mentors young men battling addiction. He says losing everything forced him to finally find himself, and healing began the moment he faced the truth instead of running from it.
