Sasha Mbote a 42 years old business woman and hotelier, almost killed herself after, a photo of her and Raila Odinga went viral. The photo was misinterpreted by media houses and bloggers. People referred to her as Raila’s Sidechik.

Sasha Mbote Taking a Photo With Raila Odinga.
Speaking in an interview with Lynn Ngugi. Sasha said that she was excited to meet Raila Odinga, at Park Hyatt hotel in Zanzibar. She screamed and went to hug Raila Odinga. She was happy and begged her for a photo.
“I screamed Oh my God! Baba! He stood up and shook my hand and he introduced me to his people. I told him my parents will not believe that I met you, can I please take a picture with you?”
Raila Odinga was with Jimmy Wanjigi. The two were easy on her, they smiled and Wanjigi was the one who took the photos. Sasha Mbote was very excited because it was like her dream come true.

After taking the photos, Raila Odinga’s bodyguards, instructed her not to post at that time. They didn’t want people to know that Raila was at the island.
When Raila Odinga left, she posted the photos on her social media accounts.

Going Viral and Being Misinterpreted.
The photos went viral and people started to misinterpret the photo. Media houses and bloggers fueled all manner of speculations. They alleged that she is Raila Odinga’s Sidechik.
“I always tell people this, if my mother and father doubted my dignity, I would have killed myself. As much as I was putting up a face, I was broken inside,” Sasha Mbote said .
Receiving Threats.
The misinterpretion and all the fake news, made her scared of returning to the country, due to threats that she had been paid by Odinga’s rivals to taint his image.In Zanzibar, police were also looking for Sasha, accusing her of disrespecting the local traditions and doctrines.
