Mwizi Aliyebadilika : When a Thief Found Redemption”
Moses was known in his village in Western Kenya as “yule mwizi” the thief. Poverty had pushed him to steal bicycles, food and even clothes from his neighbors. One day during a raid, he was caught red-handed and tied to a tree like a warning to others. The shame was overwhelming, the anger confusing him until an elder whispered of a doctor who healed hearts as much as lives.
The doctor didn’t lecture Moses; he asked him to describe what he felt before every theft. Moses realized each crime was driven by hurt the hurt of watching his siblings go hungry, the hurt of seeing others with more without understanding why he had so little. The doctor guided him to face that pain and let go of the bitterness.
Moses began working with the same community he once betrayed planting gardens, fixing roofs, carrying water for elderly neighbors. Redemption was slow, but it was real. Soon the villagers invited him to speak at local youth gatherings, telling his story so others wouldn’t make the same mistakes. Moses became known not as a thief, but as a living lesson in transformation and hope.
