Kenyan Bishop On the Spot After Asking for Donations From Congregants to Purchase a Brand New Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
Bishop Ken Kenphas of Word of Truth Celebration Church in Wangige, Kiambu County, has appealed to well-wishers to help him acquire a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, saying the vehicle would support his work of spreading the gospel across the country.
The cleric set up a Paybill number through which supporters could contribute toward the purchase, framing the appeal as a need for a reliable vehicle to help him travel between counties in the course of his ministry.
Following the appeal, Kenphas shared an update showing him at a car showroom, revealing that he had gone shopping for the vehicle despite facing considerable criticism online.
He expressed unwavering optimism about eventually acquiring the car, saying his faith in the outcome remained strong.
“Hi servants of God. I was doing window shopping and I can see, it is possible with God,” he told his followers, adding that he still believed he would get what he described as the best machine for his ministry.
The bishop said the vehicle would help him spread the gospel from county to county, framing it as an essential ministry tool rather than a personal luxury. In a lighter remark, he also told followers that anyone with a spare vehicle was welcome to bless him with one.
His appeal drew mixed reactions online, with some Kenyans questioning why a pastor would solicit public contributions for an expensive vehicle, while others suggested he consider taking a bank loan instead.
Some critics contrasted his approach with clerics who work outside the church to meet their personal needs.
Despite the backlash, Kenphas has continued engaging his followers on the matter, asking them to intercede on his behalf in prayer as he awaits what he believes will be a breakthrough.
The appeal adds to a growing list of similar requests by Kenyan clergy in recent years, with several church leaders previously receiving vehicle donations from politicians and well-wishers during church fundraising events.
