He Died a Painful Death: Raila’s Death Mystery Deepens as Untold Story of His Final Hour Emerges

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reopened the debate surrounding the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, raising questions about the final hours of the veteran politician’s life.

Speaking on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, during his “Ruto at 4” address, Gachagua said Kenyans still deserve clear answers about what happened to Raila before his death.

The former deputy president questioned why Raila’s personal doctors were allegedly denied access to him during his final hours. He also questioned why medical advice concerning Raila’s travel was allegedly ignored.

“Kenyans want to know what happened to Raila Odinga,” Gachagua said.

He further questioned why doctors linked to Nairobi West Hospital were involved in Raila’s treatment instead of his personal medical team. Gachagua also raised questions about the decision to take Raila to India for treatment.

Another issue raised by the former deputy president was the absence of a postmortem. He asked why no postmortem was conducted after Raila’s death and who made the decisions concerning his final medical arrangements.

Gachagua’s remarks have once again placed Raila’s death at the centre of political discussion. The former prime minister died in India in October 2025 after seeking medical treatment.

The latest questions come as Gachagua continues to attack the Ruto administration while positioning his political team ahead of the 2027 General Election.

He has also raised questions about the deaths of other prominent Kenyans, including former Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla and former Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno.

However, Gachagua’s claims and questions should not be treated as proof of wrongdoing. They are political allegations that would require evidence and, where necessary, official investigation.

His latest remarks are nevertheless likely to generate fresh public debate, especially among Kenyans who continue to seek clarity on the circumstances surrounding Raila’s final days.

The big question now is whether the government or Raila’s family will respond to the issues raised by Gachagua and provide further clarification.
