Edwin Sifuna: I’m 100% Sure That Ruto Will Go Home in 2027
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has firmly distanced himself from the idea of supporting the broad-based government, making it clear that he believes President William Ruto’s time in office will end in the 2027 general election. Speaking with rare certainty, Sifuna said he is “100% sure” that Ruto will not secure a second term.
According to Sifuna, the political cooperation between ODM and UDA has failed to deliver any tangible benefits to Kenyans. He pointed out that President Ruto has not fulfilled the 10-point agenda that was signed with ODM leader Raila Odinga, an agreement that was meant to address key national concerns and justify the political union. In his view, the deal has produced no meaningful results for ordinary citizens.
Sifuna argued that rising taxes, the high cost of living, unemployment, and economic pressure have continued to worsen under the current administration. He noted that Kenyans were promised relief and reforms, but instead have experienced policies that he says are disconnected from the daily struggles of the people.
The ODM Secretary General also dismissed claims that the broad-based government has brought stability or unity to the country. He insisted that political unity without economic progress is meaningless, adding that Kenyans are increasingly frustrated and unlikely to forget their experiences when election time comes.
Sifuna further stated that President Ruto has “no escape route” in 2027, arguing that voter anger is growing across the country, including in regions that previously supported the Kenya Kwanza coalition. He maintained that public dissatisfaction will translate into votes against the president.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, Sifuna’s remarks signal growing cracks within the broad-based arrangement and highlight rising opposition voices. Whether President Ruto can reverse public perception remains to be seen, but Sifuna is confident that Kenyans have already made up their minds.
