What Obado’s Siblings Told Sharon’s Parents During A Meeting Held Days After He Was Convicted
Eight years after Rongo University student Sharon Otieno was kidnapped, sexually assaulted and brutally murdered, her family and that of ex-Migori county governor Okoth Obado finally sat at the same table, seeking to initiate reconciliation and mercy for Obado after he was convicted of murder.
According to reports, last week on Monday, 10th August 2026, reconciliation talks were initiated by Okoth Obado’s sister and two brothers, after they paid a visit to Sharon Otieno’s parents, at their residence in Magare village, in Homa Bay.
The meeting came just weeks before Obado’s sentencing, which is scheduled for September 16, 2026, after Lady Justice Cecilia Githua found him of murder on July 23, 2026.
The source highlighted that during the meeting, Okoth Obado’s delegation came bearing a message of mercy on the ex- governor behalf and an appeal for leniency.
They acknowledged Okoth Obado’s previous promises to Sharon before her death including buying her a piece of land and building her a house. More importantly, Obado’s delegation indicated that the former governor is willing to fulfill the commitments he made as away of supporting Sharon’s three surviving children.

While affirming openness to reconciliation, Sharon Otieno’s family made it clear that forgiveness will be tied to action hoping that Obado’s pledges would finally be fulfilled.
In a separate probation report, Sharon’s parents told the court that they are seeking compensation for the money they spent during the 8-year legal battle, claiming that they were forced to sell land and livestock to raise Sh 1.2 million, that they used to travel to attend court proceedings and an extra Sh 3.7 million for her burial expenses.
