Sharon Otieno’s Family Demand Obado To Fulfil Promise Of Car And House Ahead Of Sentencing
Sharon Otieno’s Family Asks Obado to Honour Alleged Promise of Car and House Ahead of Sentencing
The family of the late Sharon Otieno has asked former Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado to honour an alleged promise he made to their daughter before her death.
The request was contained in a victim impact statement presented before the High Court as the court prepares to sentence Obado and his two co-convicts over Sharon’s 2018 murder.
According to the statement, Sharon’s family wants Obado to fulfil an alleged promise to provide them with a car and a house.
The request comes after Obado, Michael Juma Oyamo and Caspal Ojwang Obiero were convicted of Sharon’s murder following a lengthy trial.
The High Court found that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, leading to the cancellation of the convicts’ bond terms and their continued detention pending sentencing.
Sharon, a university student, was abducted and later found dead in September 2018.
Her family’s request over the alleged car and house promise has now become part of the issues being considered ahead of sentencing.
The High Court is expected to consider the victim impact statements alongside pre-sentence reports prepared by probation officers before determining the appropriate punishment for the three convicts.
Obado to Be Sentenced on September 16
Former Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado is expected to know his fate on September 16, when the High Court is scheduled to sentence him and his two co-convicts for Sharon Otieno’s murder.
The sentencing date was set after the court directed that Obado, Oyamo and Ojwang be sentenced following their conviction over the killing.
The family has also previously highlighted the financial and emotional impact of Sharon’s death as it continues to seek justice nearly eight years after her murder.
