Safari ya Miaka 40: How I Returned Home After Being Lost for Four Decades
My name is Peter, and for 40 years, I lived a life that never truly felt like mine. I was born in a small village in Kitui, but one day as a young man, I left home in search of a better life in the city. What I thought would be a short journey turned into a lifetime of being lost.
At first, I struggled to survive in Nairobi. I moved from one job to another, sometimes sleeping on the streets, sometimes relying on strangers. Over time, I lost contact with my family completely. Phones changed, people relocated, and slowly, the connection to my past faded away.
Years turned into decades. I built a life, but deep inside, there was always an emptiness I couldn’t explain. I often dreamed of my mother, my home, and the life I left behind, but I didn’t know how to find my way back.
One day, after a series of strange events in my life, I decided to seek help from a doctor. I explained everything—how I felt lost, disconnected, and restless. After following the guidance I was given, something unexpected happened.
I met an old man in town who recognized my name. He had once lived near my village. Through him, I was able to trace my family. When I finally returned home after 40 years, I found my siblings, now old, and the children of those who had passed on.
The reunion was emotional beyond words. I had lost time, but I had found my way back. Sometimes, no matter how far life takes you, home is still waiting.
