Mixing energy drinks with alcohol, known as “binge drinking,” can be particularly dangerous, as caffeine can mask alcohol’s effects, leading to a false sense of sobriety and increasing the risk of accidents.

Additionally, energy drinks often contain high amounts of sugar or artificial sweeteners, linked to obesity, type 2 diabetes, dental problems, and heart disease. While artificial sweeteners’ long-term effects are still unclear, excessive consumption may negatively affect gut health and metabolism.

Energy drinks may also contain other stimulants like taurine, guarana, and ginseng, as well as vitamins and amino acids. While these are marketed for benefits like improved focus or physical performance, their safety, especially in high doses or combined with other substances, is not well-established.
