It has now emerged that politicians are hiring unemployed youths as goons to cause violence during demonstrations or political events from their competitors. In Nairobi, youths from Dandora, Kayole, Kibera and Korogocho are the most vulnerable.

In a documentary done by NTV, a section of youths revealed that they are unemployed and when they get such opportunities, because of poverty, they have no option but to take the money.

They revealed that they have WhatsApp groups, where politicians communicate what they need them to do, they later give them weapons and pay them money to cause chaos and havoc.

They revealed that a governor usually pays them upto Ksh.3000, and gives them weapons and free transport to the destination that they are supposed to cause chaos. It is a very risky business because if you get injured in the process, you will have to treat yourself.

They revealed that some of them are bedridden due to the mob justice they received from public, some even get killed, but the politicians never care about that.

The youths said that they know the business is very risky, but they have no option, because some of them sleep hungry, and such an offer can seem to be life saving, hence they just join the goons gang.
