Grace had waited four years for this day. Four years of dating, introductions, and gradual family acceptance. Her fiancé, Kelvin, worked in Nairobi but frequently traveled for “business.” He was calm, responsible, and deeply respected by Grace’s parents. Everything about him appeared steady.
Yet three days before the ceremony, something small unsettled Grace. Kelvin stepped outside to answer a late-night phone call. His voice softened in a way she had never heard before. When he returned, he claimed it was a client issue. Grace ignored her instincts.
Wedding stress, she told herself. Nothing more. The next afternoon, an unfamiliar number called her directly. A woman’s voice introduced herself as Amina from Mombasa. At first, Grace thought it was a prank. But the woman’s tone was too controlled, too deliberate. Amina did not insult her. She did not yell.
She simply asked one question: “Are you aware Kelvin is the father of my two children?” The world seemed to pause.
