He was married to Kache Kahindi and together they have three kids; two older daughters and a young son. The problem is, Juma wanted his children, his daughters specifically to do everything for him. Every day, they had to wake up as early as 5 am, go to the Shamba and work like Donkeys. Then one has to leave, come prepare breakfast and go back for the remainder of the morning. There is no room for laziness. If he finds you sleeping, you will definitely go hungry for days. He ruled his homestead with an iron whip. You scratch his back, he whips yours.
His daughters hated him for this. Every evening,he would go out to drink “mnazi”, local palm wine and only came home late. This case of domestic slavery didn’t go down well with his wife or family. But, every time he is reminded to go easy on them, he rebukes them by saying they are his own flesh and blood, that he will do with them or to them as he pleases.
“Watoto ni wangu nimewazaa mimi, Shamba ni langu, mavuno ni yangu. Yanawahusu nini nyinyi washenzi. Nikilala njaa si bado mtaongea?? Msiniletee upumbavu wenu, nitawavyoga niwatoe utumbo” he cursed those who would criticize him.
It came as a genuine shock to many when yesterday, he was spotted with a jembe at 2pm coming from the Shamba looking exhausted and hungry. He had indeed been working all morning and afternoon. Somehow, tables have turned. Or was he showing his daughters how to work efficiently?? Not exactly. His wife Kache visited the famous traditional healer, the other day and got his help, in the form of spells that work within minutes. She wanted him to taste exactly what her daughters have been going through for months. His spells worked.
