Mwizi wa Ng’ombe: The Cow Thief Who Was Caught After Villagers Sought Guidance on How to Catch the Thief
My name is Peter, and I grew up in a quiet village in Narok County where cattle are considered the most valuable treasure a family can own. In our community, cows are not just animals. They represent wealth, respect, and the future of many households.
For several months, our village had been suffering from a strange problem. Cows were disappearing at night without any trace. Farmers would wake up in the morning only to find broken fences and empty grazing fields. The losses were painful, and fear slowly spread through the entire community.
Meetings were held under the big acacia tree in the center of the village as elders tried to figure out what was happening. Some people suspected outsiders, while others believed someone from within the community was responsible.
After weeks of frustration, the elders decided to consult a doctor for guidance on how to reveal the thief behind the mysterious cattle thefts. The doctor advised them on steps they should follow so that the truth could finally come out.
Not long after that, something unbelievable happened.
One morning, villagers woke up to find a man crawling in a nearby field, desperately chewing grass like a cow. People rushed to the scene in disbelief. The man was sweating, confused, and unable to stop eating the grass no matter how hard he tried.
Soon the truth became clear.
The man finally confessed that he had been the one stealing cows from different homes in the village for months. The humiliation was overwhelming as villagers gathered around, shocked by what they were witnessing.
That moment became a powerful lesson for everyoene in the community. The thief later apologized publicly and promised never to steal again.
Even today, people in our village still remember the strange morning when a cow thief was discovered while eating grass in the field.
