“Nilikuwa Mtumwa wa Betting” : A Young Man from Mombasa shares how he escaped gambling addiction

Hassan was once the pride of his family in Mombasa. He had a job, dreams, and a future that looked bright. But everything changed when he placed his first sports bet. The small win felt exciting, like free money falling from heaven. Soon, Hassan believed betting was his shortcut to success. One bet became ten, ten became a daily routine, and before he knew it, he was drowning.
He lost his salary, borrowed money from friends, even sold his phone to place one last bet. His family began to look at him with disappointment. His girlfriend left. Hunger became normal. Shame became his shadow. Hassan tried to stop, but addiction is a prison with invisible chains.
One night, after losing everything again, Hassan sat at the beach and thought of ending his life. That’s when an elderly fisherman approached him and spoke of a doctor in Kilifi who helped people trapped in spiritual darkness and destructive habits.
Hassan visited the doctor the next morning. Instead of punishment, the doctor offered understanding. He prepared herbs meant to cleanse the body, calm cravings, and strengthen the mind. He also gave Hassan strict advice: rebuild discipline, return to work, and cut off the triggers.

Months later, Hassan slowly recovered. He joined a youth group, found employment again, and began supporting others struggling with addiction. He says betting almost destroyed him, but healing gave him a second chance.
