Boni & Agather May Get Ksh.130M, If They Emerge Victorious Against Tanzania Govt Over Torture Case.
Kenyan Activist Boniface Mwangi and Agather Atuhaire of Uganda have sued the Tanzanian government in the East Africa Court of Justice over alleged torture. If they emerge victorious then Tanzanian government will be forced to compensate them by paying Ksh.130 Million which is equivalent to Tsh.2.7 Billion.
The two who had gone in Tanzania in June to support Tundu Lissu in his case that is still going on, were arrested by authorities of Tanzania, the police officers kept them incominicado, tortured them and sexually assaulted. Agather and Boniface Mwangi released statements on how they were assaulted by the police officers.
They were later forcefully driven out of the country and dumped at different places. That goes against the human rights act of East Africa and Africa. The case has now been filed in the East Africa Court of Justice. If Tanzanian government is found guilty, they will have no option but to compensate the two a sum of Ksh.130 Million.
