Former Safaricom Manager Sues Company for KSh800 Million Over Unfair Dismissal

  • Saikumar Allaka, an ex-Safaricom senior analytics manager, is suing the company, claiming wrongful dismissal.
He seeks KSh800 million in damages after being fired before his contract ended.
Safaricom accused him of a data breach, leading to his arrest, but he was later acquitted due to lack of evidence.
Saikumar says the incident hurt his reputation and well-being.

Saikumar Allaka, who previously worked as a senior analytics manager at Safaricom, has taken legal action against the company, accusing it of wrongful termination. He is demanding KSh800 million in compensation after being dismissed 15 months into a two-year contract.

Saikumar joined Safaricom from Equity Bank in September 2020, recruited for his skills in data analysis. However, Safaricom terminated his contract in December 2021, alleging that he was involved in a data breach. This led to his arrest, but in April, he was acquitted as investigators found no link between his devices and the alleged breach.

Now, Saikumar is claiming KSh500 million in damages for his dismissal and KSh300 million as a warning against what he describes as Safaricom’s “malicious” actions. He says that the incident affected his career and caused personal distress.

Saikumar’s case highlights the impact of alleged wrongful dismissals and the importance of handling employment disputes carefully. As the case proceeds, it will determine if Safaricom is liable for damages in what could be one of the biggest employment lawsuits in Kenya.
