Nicodemus Karuri recalls, painfully, how his life fell apart in 2014 when he lost both his parents due to a pneumonia outbreak and almost died. He had nothing, literally. After surviving several days eating raw mangoes, he went to an orphanage in Nakuru, Umoja Children’s Home to seek help and offer that they adopt him, for life was throwing too strong a punch at him, he has tried blocking but has kept finding himself too weak to fight back. They took him in for a few days, with the promise that they will find him another shelter. At 28 years old, he was way past the age where he could be adopted. A middle-aged woman offered to help him, employing him as a gardener at her huge mansion. It wasn’t long before she made her first attempt, seducing him and asking him to do all kinds of sexual favors. After a month of fending off her advances, he left, and was hosted by a high school friend of his.
