Mapenzi Yaliyovunjika: How My Failed Marriage Nearly Destroyed My Life

My name is Daniel, and for many years I believed my marriage was the greatest blessing in my life. I met my wife in Nairobi when we were both young and full of dreams. We promised each other loyalty, respect, and a future together. For the first few years, everything seemed perfect. We rented a small house, worked hard, and slowly built the life we had always imagined.
But things began to change. My wife started coming home late, often with strange excuses. At first, I ignored the signs because I loved her deeply. I thought maybe work stress or financial pressure was affecting our relationship. But the arguments became frequent. Our home, which once felt warm and peaceful, slowly turned into a battlefield filled with shouting and silence.
One evening, I discovered messages on her phone that broke my heart completely. She had been seeing another man for months. That night, my entire world collapsed. I could not eat, I could not sleep, and I felt like my life had lost all meaning. Friends advised me to move on, but the pain felt too heavy to carry.
Eventually, someone advised me to seek guidance from a local doctor known for helping people through difficult life situations. I was desperate for peace, so I decided to visit.
The experience changed something inside me. Instead of focusing on revenge or anger, I slowly began to rebuild my life. My confidence returned, my mind became calmer, and I started seeing life differently.
Today, years later, I can finally say I found peace after the storm. My marriage ended, but my life did not.
