Maisha Mapya: From Darkness to a New Beginning
My name is Peter from Kisumu.
There was a time when alcohol controlled my life.
It started with weekend drinking with friends. But soon weekends turned into every day. My small business collapsed because I was always drunk or too hungover to work.
My wife left with our two children.
Neighbors avoided me. Even my own relatives stopped visiting.
One night I looked at myself in the mirror and barely recognized the man staring back.
My eyes were red, my face swollen, and my life completely broken.
That was the moment I realized something had to change.
A friend advised me to visit a doctor who helped people struggling with life problems. With nothing left to lose, I decided to try.
The visit changed everything.
After following the guidance I received, I slowly began rebuilding my life. The urge to drink reduced, and my mind became clear again.
Within months I had started a small fish business at the local market.
Today I wake up at 5am every morning ready to work.
Even more surprising, my wife eventually returned home after seeing the changes in my life.
Sometimes when I sit outside my house in the evening watching the sunset over Lake Victoria, I remember how close I came to losing everything.
And I am grateful for the second chance I was given.
