Jeneza Lilikataa Kusonga: The Coffin That Refused to Move During Burial

Jeneza Lilikataa Kusonga The Coffin That Refused to Move During Burial

My name is Daniel, and I will never forget my uncle’s burial in our village near Bungoma. He was known as a wealthy businessman, respected and feared. When he suddenly passed away, the entire community gathered to give him a dignified send-off.
The ceremony began peacefully. Songs were sung. Prayers were offered. But when it was time to lower the coffin into the grave, something terrifying happened.
Six strong men tried to lift it — it wouldn’t move. They added four more men. Still, the coffin felt impossibly heavy. Murmurs spread across the crowd. Some whispered that hidden secrets were refusing to be buried.
After hours of confusion, an elder advised the family to seek guidance from a doctor experienced in resolving unresolved matters tied to the deceased. Private family discussions followed. It was revealed that my uncle had wronged several relatives in land disputes and had never reconciled with them.
That same evening, the family publicly asked for forgiveness and promised to resolve the disputes fairly. The next morning, when they returned to the grave, the coffin lifted easily — as if nothing had ever happened.
Whether it was guilt, tension, or something deeper, peace only came after truth was faced.
That burial taught us that unresolved conflicts can weigh more than wood and nails.
