Edwin Sifuna: I’m In ODM To Stay Na Oburu Odinga Hawezi Nitoa ODM Mimi

Edwin Sifuna : I’m In ODM To Stay Na Oburu Odinga Hawezi Nitoa ODM Mimi

Edwin Sifuna, the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) Secretary General and Nairobi Senator, has made it clear that he is in ODM to stay and there is no one who can remove him from the party. During a recent interview, Sifuna emphasized that his membership and any future changes in leadership must follow the party’s constitution and proper procedures, not unilateral decisions by individuals.

The dispute comes after Oburu Oginga Odinga was installed as acting party leader following the death of Raila Odinga in October 2025. Sifuna challenged the move, saying the crowning of Oburu did not follow ODM’s constitutional requirements. He pointed out that the proper process would have required a National Delegates Convention (NDC) to elect a new leader formally, and that skipping this step undermines the party’s democratic structures.

Despite the tensions, Sifuna made it clear he has no intention of leaving ODM or joining another political party. He stated that any leadership change involving him must happen through the party’s democratic mechanisms. His stance sends a strong message: he is committed to ODM and believes in upholding its constitution above personal or factional interests.

The situation highlights growing strains within ODM, where some members prioritize procedural norms and internal democracy, while others support unity behind the new acting leadership. Sifuna’s position reinforces his commitment to party rules and internal democracy, making him a key and sometimes controversial voice within ODM’s ongoing political debates.
