How The Total Shutdown Of Nairobi CBD During Sabasaba Protest Led To A Ksh.10.4 Billion Loss.

During the Sabasaba protest, the government decided to deploy police officers in Nairobi CBD and the city was on a total shutdown. All the businesses, financial institutions, offices and other essentials in the country were completely out of bound for 24 hours.

This shutdown was a very huge blow to Nairobi county and also the economy of Kenya. It has been estimated that on 7th July, the county of Nairobi made a loss of Ksh.10.4 Billion. This is from the transactions that happens daily in the city. It is a city that accumulates about Ksh.3.8 trillion every year and the economy of Kenya greatly depends on the city activities.

If the demonstrations continue to happen, and the government insist on shutting down Nairobi CBD, then the economy of Kenya will cripple. The government must come up with amicable ways of resolving the protests, use of police officers and killing protesters will never be a solution.
