Welcome To A Village In Kenya Where Toilets Don’t Exist, They Just Go To Bushes
Having a toilet in your compound is part of good hygiene. However this doesn’t make any sense in one of the village at the border of Kenya and Tanzania.
It is a Masaai village, that still observe their cultural beliefs and traditions. The culture of Masaai is something that most of them value. In this village, which consists of about 300 people, they don’t even have a single toilet.
Whenever they feel like they what to go for a long call or short call, they just go to the nearby bush. They said that they have been brought up in that environment, hence it has never crossed in their minds that they need to have toilets.
The elders of the village see no problem in the members of the community going to the bushes. However some few enlightened young people feel it is time for change, they want toilets. But the main problem is that, how will they get the materials and funding to build toilets? .
One of the women who is aged 33 years, confessed that she has never seen a toilet in her entire life. That is a similar case to alot of older people in the village. They have food, milk and cows, but when it comes to proper sanitation, for them they prefer going to bushes. They even risk their life in the middle of night to go outside in the bushes and relieve themselves.
