“I spent On Her Ksh.200K” How Naftali Is Serving 40 Years Jail Term For Killing IVy With An Axe

In 2019 9th April a very tragic incident happened in Moi University, Eldoret. Naftali Kinuthia decided to take away the life of his best friend Ivy. She did it by hitting her with a sharpened axe on head two times. Main reason being rejection despite spending around Ksh.200,000 on her. The murder handed Naftali a 40 years jail term at Kamiti Maximum prison.

According to reliable sources, IVy Wangeci and Naftali were friends at a very young age, and they even attended same primary school. Life was good and they both had dreams, for Naftali he managed to graduate before Ivy, and he opened his electronics shop at Jamia Mall.

Life was doing well, he was financially stable, he even bought a car for himself, and drove it all the way to Eldoret to go and pick Ivy. Friends to Ivy who were witnesses in court revealed that Naftali and Ivy were just best friends, they never dated.

However after becoming financially stable, Naftali tried to pursue for a romantic relationship, but Ivy wasn’t ready for anything more than , plus he wasn’t her type, because he was short.

Despite all that Naftali kept sending money to Ivy, and when Ivy rejected dating options, he started threatening her, to refund all the money and gifts he had given her. Naftali calculated it to be about Ksh.200,000. He even said he will demand it from her mum.

There friendship was becoming toxic, to an extent Ivy used to block Naftali, and even didn’t want anything to do with him. On the other hand Naftali wasn’t ready to let their friendship die, he was also very optimistic that one day Ivy will agree to date him.

How Naftali Took Away the life of Ivy Wangeci.

Ivy had planned for her birthday which was to happen on 10th April, before loosing her life on 9th April 2019. That period she wasn’t in good terms with Naftali, but Naftali had appeared from nowhere and asked for the budget of her birthday. Ivy said that it was Ksh.28000.

Naftali sent him Ksh.14,000, and he was to sent him the remaining 14,000. So he decided to travel to Eldoret and celebrate the birthday with her. After reaching there, Naftali drove to the hostel where Ivy was residing, then he saw Ivy coming out of the hostel with his male friend.

Naftali took an axe from his car, then went on to hit Ivy with it two times on head, giving her no chance to survive. Ivy’s male friend tried to help but he wasn’t able to save her because Naftali also threatened to kill him.

Bodaboda riders together with students descended on Naftali and did mob justice to him, they almost killed him, but he was rescued and taken to hospital for treatment before being arrested.

Naftali admitted that it is true he killed Ivy witb an axe. He said that he felt bad that Ivy had rejected him, despite spending alot of energy and money on their friendship.

He said that he had left Nairobi at around 3:00 am on 9th April and arrived Eldoret, morning hours. He had came to give Ivy the remaining Ksh.14000 in person. Then Ivy came out with his male friend hugged Infront of him, he knew that was his new boyfriend.

He felt bad and devastated, according to him Ivy did that to hurt him, so he lost his mind, went to his boot pick an axe that had been there for sometime due to protection, then from there he doesn’t remember what happened. He just found himself in hospital and he was told that Ivy was dead.

Naftali said that he was remorseful, and he will regret forever, their differences could have been solved amicably.

Witness and police side of Story

Witness said that Ivy and Naftali never dated, they were just friends. Naftali tried to pursue for romantic relationship but Ivy wasn’t ready to be more than a friend. They also said that the boy who was walking with Ivy when Naftali killed her, was his male friend, they were not dating. They never hugged infront ofNaftali, they were going to attend a lesson.

Police said that the axe Naftali used to kill Ivy was the one used in rural areas to split woods. So he bought it with an intention of killing Ivy. Hitting him on head two times, clearly shows he had already planned to kill her, so he knew what he was doing.

The judge found Naftali guilty in 2023, he was sentenced a 40 years jail term at Kamiti Maximum prison.

That is how the dream of two young people was shuttered. Ivy could have been Dr IVy Wangeci now, and Naftali could have been expanded his business and maybe a wealthy IT expert in the country.
